The Group:

The KN student group is composed of primarily undergraduate MSU students who have studied abroad in Kenya (via the Behavioral Ecology of African Mammals) program. After meeting these girls in their 8th grade year and learning they would be forcibly married at the end of the year, inspired students collaborated with KN to coordinate their sponsorship. The student group will be sponsoring these two ladies while continuing to educate the MSU student body about the realities of education in the Maasai Mara, Kenya.

The Mission:

The KN Student group is the fundraising and awareness raising branch of KN. Based at MSU’s main campus, the student group non only focuses on educating the student body about issues relevant to women trying to get educations in Kenya, but it also organizes fundraisers to sponsor two of their students:

Fundraiser at bd’s Mongolian Barbeque
Date: January 22, 2008 from 6-9pm

• KN members guest grilled and raised over $200 for our girls- it was a great success!

Dinner and a movie night:

• In collaboration with MSU’s Women’s Council, KN will be putting on a dinner/movie/discussion evening open to the student body. We will be watching “The Constant Gardener” and then will be discussing the main issues as they relate to women in Kenya, afterwards

• Collaborating with a restaurant such as Noodles & Company or Coldstone Creamery
• Working with other campus student groups focused on African issues to put together an event.
